Giving birth to twins or more

Premier Scans

If you are expecting twins or more, it is very important to discuss your birthing options with your midwife as twins will require more care after birth. It is advised that you chose to give birth to twins or more in the hospital, as it tends to be more common to experience complications during birth.

Can you have a natural birth with twins or triplets?

Many women believe they will need to have a caesarean with twins but according to the NHS over 40% of women give birth naturally. You will probably be advised to have an epidural to help with pain and also in case of any birth problems, its much easier for the antenatal team to deliver the babies quickly.

In the UK the NHS has found that more than half the ladies giving birth to twins are caesarean. This may be because of medical reasons or if you have previously had a caesarean. There are other conditions that make it more likely that you will have a caesarean section. Such as you may have a low-lying placenta (placenta praevia) or if your twins share a placenta (monochorionic).

If you'd like to know more, head over the NHS site or speak with your midwife about your options; NHS

At Premier Scans we offer a number of ultrasound scanning options if you're expecting twins. Prices slightly increase for a selection of our scans due to increased scanning time, as you would expect, you will need a slightly longer appointment to ensure we can obtain details and measurements of each baby. When booking your scan, please advise if you are expecting two or more babies to ensure we allow the correct amount of time.

If you would like to book a scan please visit our prices page for further information or call us on 01455 363060.
